04/11/07 FIX STEP BY STEP 293t INSTRUCTIONS FORTEC ULTRA. QUESTIONS LOOK HERE.

This bin has Auto-Key & Auto-TP-Roll. DN & Bev, Safe For Fortec Ultra's. This is NTSC not PAL
Read all of these instructions and you will have less questions and may learn something. I am not taking credit for this bin only the instructions.

PLEASE DO NOT PM ME POST QUESTIONS IN A NEW THREAD.

YOU CAN PRINT THIS OUT
Close to the top of this thread click THREAD TOOLS then SHOW PRINTABLE VERSION then PRINT in your browser. From time to time this may be updated.

Download the recommended file, X-85BL_070411_293t_api.zip You can get it here.
http://www.purefta.com/forum/fortec-lifetime-ultra/9326-x-85bl_070411_293t_api-full-jtag-zip.html
Download a loader, BLACKLIST UPDATER.ZIP It don't ask model name. You can get it here.
http://www.purefta.com/forum/fortec-lifetime-ultra/3904-flu-downloader.html
To unzip a file you can use WinZip or Winace.

HOW TO FLASH.
You can flash (load) your receiver with this bin on top of the bin (file) you already have. It will replace it.
Use a 9 pin STRAIGHT THROUGH CABLE RS232C, Model: 26-152, Catalog #: 26-152 at Radio Shack to connect your receiver to the computer. If you have a computer without a 9 pin plug you may need to use a USB to Serial cable 26-183 at Radio Shack. You will need to install a drive in your computer for the USB cable. If you need a 9 pin mail to mail gender adapter it is item #: 26-231. Take the cable off going to the LNB when flashing to be safe.

UNZIP the files, you need to pick the file you want to flash with and make sure that is unzipped also. The file must end in BIN before you can flash with it. Click on BLACKLIST UP LOADER.EXE to start it. Set the COM PORT and select the word BIN. Click on BROWSE then put in the bin you want (note it ends a BIN & NOT zip). Turn receiver on from the back, when FIRST bar starts then click FIX on the loader in the computer. After you get compleat at the computer the ON will display in your receiver. Give the receiver EXTRA time to finish, it will get done after the computer and may show a channel number if you have channels (DON'T RUSH THIS).
If you get (Night Rider) NR ------- dashes instead of the ON or 8888" you can maybe bring it back by flashing it again or with the factory bin 050519_272. You can get it at the factory sight.
If you have no lights (NOTHING) on your receiver then you will need to jtag.

AFTER FLASHING YOU MAY NEED TO SET DEFAULT KEY, HAVE AUTOROLL ON FOR IT TO ROLL AT A PPV CHANNEL AND TURN SWITCH OFF THEN ON IN THE BACK. IT MAY ROLL MORE THEN ONCE BEFORE THE TV WILL WORK.

PLUGGING IN CABLE.
Make sure you plug the cable from the dish to the receiver at the IF 13/18v INPUT. Not the ANT IN. The cables coming from the dish to the switch should be put on the switch at the same number as you have set in your receiver. "Example", 119 cable from the LNB goes on number 1 on the diseqc switch and the receiver has #1 for 119 in the setup.

DISH ALIGNMENT
You want a high QUALITY signal before you start to scan, that is the green bar. 90 is good above 95 is better. If you have a Dish Pro LNB and do not have a 22Khz switch then you can keep the 22Khz switch OFF in the settings. If you have a Dish Pro LNB you may want to change the LNB type to Dish-Pro. Go to SETUP in the receiver and pick a Satellite you want. Run the cable straight to the LNB (with no switch if you don't have a DP). Have someone look at the QUALITY SIGNAL on the TV as you move the dish less then 1/8th of an inch at a time. You can only get one Satellite for each one LNB you have. One LNB one Satellite. Two LNB's two Satellites, and so on. If you are going for two Satellites then you need to adjust the SKEW. The skew is adjusted like when you turn the steering wheel on a car. You can get the skew settings at the bottom of these instructions. If your Quality signal is much lower on one Satellite then the other on the same dish then your skew may be off. Equal signal on both Satellites would be good.

A MENU SETUP FOR 110 & 119 or Bev WITH SEPARATE LNB's & ONE DiSEqC SWITCH. Or A DISH PRO LNB, and no motor to move the dish
YOU MAY NEED TO FIX YOUR SATELLITE SETTINGS AFTER A FLASH & SET THE DEFAULT KEY.
The TP's below are close and will give you the channels that are there. You can only get one provider at a time. Below is the setup for one or the other.
MENU then INSTALLATION then OK then OK in ANTENNA SETUP, then to the Satellite you want then OK.
----------------ECHO 7 = 119-----ECHO 8,10 = 110 ----- & Nimiq 1,3 91.0W SATELLITES
LNB type --------- Standard ------------- Standard--------------Standard. With DishPro LNB set to DishPro
LNB local-Freq ---- 11250------------------11250-----------------11250
22Khz -------------- ON----------------------OFF--------------------OFF. You can only have two satellites with this switch
DiSEqC -------------- 1------------------------2----------------------3
SKEW --------------- 0 -----------------------0----------------------0 This setting is if you don't have a motor to move the dish.
TP ------------ 12224V20.00-----------12224V20.000--------12224V20.000 This TP is just a starting point.
Positioner Setting -- Disable----------------Disable--------------Disable
Satellite Scan ------ ALL----------------------ALL-------------------ALL. Change to ALL then Click OK to scan.

HOW TO SET DEFAULT KEY.
MENU, PARENTAL CONTROL, OK, down to SECOND PIN put in 1668 then OK then down to SET DEFAULT KEY then OK. You may need to set the DEFAULT KEY after you get channels or you may get the scrambled message.

HOW TO DO A FACTORY SETTING
MENU, down to FACTORY SETTING then OK. When you do this you will clean out your channels.

MANUALLY CHANGE DN KEYS OR SEE IF YOUR AUTO-ROLL WILL ROLL
MENU then Down to PARENTAL CONTROL then OK
At bottom in SECOND PIN put in 0000 or 1668
Then down to NAGRAVISION 2 then OK
In PROVIDER ID side arrow to 01 01 for DN. Then down to KEY NUMBER then side arrow to change 00 or 01 then down to KEY DATA and change one or all the keys here. Then click OK to save then exit all the way out.

HOW TO MANUALLY CHANGE BEV's KEYS.
Same as above but PROVIDER ID change to 09 01
When done make sure you click OK to SAVE

TP AUTO-ROLL OPTIONS
To turn TP AUTOUPDATE ON or OFF go here. MENU, then down to USER SETUP then OK then down to TP AUTOUPDATE, side arrow will make the change. then EXIT. TP auto-roll will NOT find the channel if it moves to another Satellite. To manually scan a TP click on MENU, then click OK in INSTALLATION, then down to TP SCAN, then OK, then pick a Satellite, then OK, then pick a TP you want to scan and click OK. All the channels you get will be at the end of the list you already have. When TP auto-rolls it may give you all the channels on that TP and put them at the end of your list. Some may get mixed up with your channels you already have and mess up your list order. You may have to delete, rename or move them. It may be a good idea to keep AUTOUPDATE off until you are ready to fix things, that way your channel order will be ok until then.

KEY AUTO-ROLL OPTIONS
You can turn key auto-roll ON or OFF. YOU NEED TO KEEP KEYCODE ON. Don't turn KEYCODE off or it will not look at any keys, the TV will not work.
MENU then PARENTAL CONTROL then OK then to bottom at SECOND PIN then 0000 or 1668 then down to AUTOROLL OPTIONS then OK. Side arrow will change key auto-roll then OK then EXIT.

DISH PRO & CHANNEL MASTER & CHANNEL LIST.
A Dish Pro LNB has one or two eyes in one casing with a black label saying Dish Pro. If you use a channel list you need one for your Dish Pro. Or you can convert the channel list to Dish Pro with Channel Master. If you scan for your channels with your DP then you are OK.

TIME SETTING & EPG (ELECTRONIC PROGRAM GUIDE)
MENU, USER SETUP, TIME SETTING, OK.
Important, GMT time needs to be correct, along with the time or day and date for DN. Put the receiver at a channel that is on Satellite 119 on TP 19 (12486). You then will need to turn the receiver OFF & ON then click OK at the EPG prompt. It also will help if you are on the Echostar package by clicking SAT on your remote. Use Military time. If you have changed the Satellite name from ECHO to DISH you may not get asked if you want to download the EPG when you first turn on the receiver.

RESET RECEIVER (HARD BOOT)
Sometimes you need to do a reset, (hard boot). Turn power off then on from the back.

SYSTEM INFORMATION
This will show you what bin and boot file you have.
Click on MENU then down to SYSTEM INFORMATION.

SWITCH
SW21 switch will not work with Ultra. That is a DN switch. You will need a SW22 to work with Ultra. You can also use a DiSEqC switch. This switch is good but some receivers have trouble with it switching. A trouble free switch is a 22kHz switch. It will switch every time and will not give you any trouble. But only has two connectors for two LNB's. So if you use more then two LNB's I would go for the SW22 switch. A Universal LNB setting in the setup don't have the option to turn the switch ON. A good indication of a bad switch is. When you change to a channel that is on another Satellite and the channel don't work. But if you turn the receiver OFF & ON in the back the channel will work.

HOW TO CLONE ONE RECEIVER TO ANOTHER
Use a Null Modem cable from Radio Shack Model: 03044 - Catalog #: 55010600. OR a Straight through cable with a Null Modem adaptor number 26-264 to make it a Null cable. A Null modem cable or the adaptor has some wires crossed. Unplug the LNB cable from the master receiver to be safe. Then connect the master receiver to the TV. Now plug the Null cable into both receivers. Covered the remote eye on the slave receiver with foil so it will not see the remote. Click MENU on the Master receiver. Go to USER SETUP click OK then scroll down to S/W Transfer. Now select between CODE for the bin or DATA for the channels with the side arrow. If it don't work you may need to flash or clone with the 276 bin first then try and clone again.

HOW TO GET YOUR TV SCREEN FROM PAL TO NTSC
Make sure the channel 3/4 switch in back is set correctly with your TV.
Turn receiver on then click MENU on remote once
Click down arrow three times on remote.
Click OK on remote.
Click side arrow on remote until you can see TV.
There are 3 settings. NTSC,AUTO & PAL

CLEAN AND PUT LUBRICANT ON YOUR REMOTE.
If some of the keys are giving you a hard time you may want to clean the inside.
Use ProGold G100P from Radio Shack part number 64-4337
